I’m back for the moment, as is Swedish shoegaze band Degrees. Some new songs have popped up on Soundcloud, and they sound pretty amazing. Dream On Dreamy will be the name of their next album, to be released on May 24th. Bring it on, I say!!!
Degrees – At Least Rock & Roll Won’t Leave A Hole In My Back

Here’s some free Viola stuff I’ve missed the last few months…
March: Suddenness (MP3)
April: Elämän Iskelmä (MP3)
May: Break The News Gently (MP3)
Currently on heavy rotation on my CD-player/MP3-player/computer/Android:
– Blackfield‘s new album Welcome To My DNA… recommended!
– Elbow‘s Build A Rocket Boys!… don’t think I have to tell you about this one!
– The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart… see above
– the latest from Thirteen Senses, Crystal Sounds. Really one of the best 2011 releases for me so far!
– just started with Guillemots new one, Walk The River, but it’s already gaining a lot of attention. This one especially caught my ear:
And this one gives me goosebumps… what a voice!!!
… as always courtesy of Viola. Here are the Loners:
Viola – The Loners (MP3)
Today’s Daft Punk day… yes, I’ve seen Tron: Legacy yesterday, and the soundtrack really blew me away! And of course the movie rocked as well. Go see it!
Daft Punk – Derezzed (Nteibint Remix) (Download via Soundcloud)
Hope you all arrived safe and sound in 2011. I for myself spent some fantastic days in the sun and snow, but time flew much too fast and I already find myself at the office again. Well, at least the first song on the radio this morning helped me get out of bed:
Of course it didn’t take too long before they station also played the most obvious song for a day like today: yes, The Bangles’ Manic Monday! I’m gonna spare you this one… anyone who knows it must have it in the head by now anyway! 🙂
I’ve also noticed that I didn’t post Viola‘s freebie last month, but even if it’s probably too late for any Christmas compilations, I’m gonna deliver it anyway (you can still use it for next year’s holiday!). And of course I’m also gonna link to the first new song of 2011.
Viola – Wayne Coyne Be Our Santa Claus (MP3)
Viola – Newest Hottest Whatever (MP3)
It’s already November, which means time for another Viola freebie. This month, they have come up with a beautiful, shoegazey song that really could serve as a soundtrack in one or the other way. Check it out here:
Viola – Astromelancholia (MP3)
Anybody remembers my “Whatever Happened To“-post? As it turns out, one of the bands in the article has just released a sign of life. Norwegians 120 Days are readying their second album for an early 2001 release. Now I’d like to think that they’ve posted the message on myspace (see below) following my post, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. 🙂 Anyway, it’s good news! Here’s the message:
It has been some time, but very soon we will have some definite news on the release of our new album and shows to support it. We are in the studio now completing the final touches to the album and it will most certainly be released (alongside various other bits & pieces) in early 2011. We are present on myspace, but for now, more up to date news will be posted on our facebook page, so if you are on facebook (or not), head over there and add us. This is where most of the daily chatter will come from.
MORE TO COME SOOOOOON
Visit the German site for Danish ElectRock-outfit Ginger Ninja and download the best song from their debut album Wicked Map for free. But hurry, Bone Will Break Metal will only be available until November 23rd!!!
Lots of freebies today:
Labrador offers a new song from Club 8. Yes, it is a completely new one that hasn’t been included on the band’s latest, rather good album The People’s Record.
Club 8 – Closer Now (MP3)
Club 8 – Western Hospitality (MP3, from The People’s Record)
Of course, with a new month, there’s also a new song by Viola. Here’s an attempt do reanimate Enigma:
Viola – La Formule Du Bonheur (MP3)
The Concretes have signed with Friendly Fire Recordings, and the new album WYWH will be released there on November 9th. Good news indeed!
The Concretes – Good Evening (MP3)
Also new on Friendly Fire is NY electro-indie-act Violens who will also release their debut album Amoral on November 2nd. One to keep on the radar! (And as a bonus, you can download Violens‘ own Summer Mixtape right here)
Violens – Acid Reign (MP3)
It’s bright and shiny outside, but Viola nonetheless sing about Puppies In The Rain (MP3).
A Swedish double: Degrees tell us about Punchdrunk Sweethearts (MP3) in their latest free offering, while Stars In Coma wants us to stay In Your Prison (MP3).
One of my favourite songs at the moment comes from Wild Nothing. Get Golden Haze here.
Over two years ago (see here), I’ve written about Swedish band Garmisch on this blog. Their song Glimmer is still popping up in my playlist regularly, and now, after various EPs, Garmisch have finally released their self-titled debut album. It has been put out under Creative Commons License which means that you can get the whole album for free. Nice one! Check BlocSonic for various formats including booklets and covers.
Garmisch – Glimmer (MP3)
Here’s another attempt to breathe some life into this blog. No big texts, just music:
Viola‘s gift for August is here:
Viola – Traitor On The Inside (MP3)
Them Youth has been sending over some remixes. Listen here and download some of them here.
Mr. Meeble offers a damn fine song as a freebie. Highly recommended!

The rather great Post Electric Blues album by Scots Idlewild will finally be released on October 5th. Check their homepage for more infos.
