From Finland To Leningrad To Australia To Canada…

…and all in a day! With that much travelling, it could well be that you see strange things… like a giant pink crab singing German 70s-hit Dschingis Khan in Finnish! Well, actually that is just what I saw last night. Don’t fear, I haven’t gone completely bonkers… I’ve just been to a concert by that world-famous Finnish party-band Leningrad Cowboys! Although the concert was a bit on the short side, we had a great time, and it still is amazing how these guys easily switch from AC/DC to Tom Jones to Kim Wilde to Las Ketchup, and manage to make each of these songs their own. The venue and the sound-mixing were far from perfect, but with so much going on on the stage, no one really cared. All you get is a big party with lots of well-known classics, and that is more than enough for a Sunday evening!

OK, on to Australia now: The Sunpilots are offering a new, 6-track EP called Animals In My Mind for free. I’d love to link to my older post of the band, but it still hangs somewhere in backup-limbo. Well… just check them out, they’re worth it. And the title-track is especially catchy!

Last but not least we’re visiting Canada, where those generous lads from Pilot Speed offer a B-Side from their latest album Wooden Bones. Cold Outside is available for a short time only, so get it while it’s hot!

Bit tired today, as I got up at 2am this night to watch the Oscars (congratulations Slumdog Millionaire!). So here’s just some collected stuff from MySpace:

More Degrees: a new version of Baby Oh Baby is available now, and it’s something you shouldn’t miss!

Glaswegians Oswald have 14 new songs up their sleeves, and a bunch of them are up on their new website for streaming.

Canadians Pilote Speed (formerly known as Pilate) are about to release their next album in April. It will be called Wooden Bones, and the first single Put The Phone Down is now ready for streaming on MySpace. Find the complete tracklist here.

Jonas Jonsson, better known as Bedroom Eyes, is also in the middle of recording his debut-album. No release date yet, but it shouldn’t take too long before this baby sees the light of day. Looking forward to a collection of perfectly crafted Swedish indie-pop!

Delays are back in the studio working on the successor for Everything’s The Rush. First two demos, Rhapsody and Unsung, are streaming now on MySpace. Full blog on the works in progress here.

And we will see (and hear!) a new album from the Manic Street Preachers as well this year (somewhen in May, to be precise). Nicky Wire has scribbled a bit about it on the band’s official homepage. Bring it on!

Whatever Happened To…? Continued

Pilot Speed (formerly Pilate)
the Canadian band has released two very good albums so far, and since the last one was released in 2006, I think it’s about time for more. And indeed, Pilot Speed are currently working on a new album, but have only recently finished the writing process. So it could well take some time before we see the release of the new one. Good things come to those who wait, I say, so here’s hoping that the wait will pay off in the end!

My Architects
Grand Designs was this UK band’s album from 2006, and although it was not a complete smash, there were some very fine songs on that one. So will there be more? Yes, indeed! My Architects are currently working on the follow-up, and they’ve decided to take matters in their own hands and do the work all by themselves. If we see a new release this year remains uncertain, but there are already three new songs on the band’s MySpace, and all of them are downloadable in good quality. Go get ’em!

Secret Machines
We stay in 2006 when New York’s own Secret Machines released their second album Ten Silver Drops, which in my opinion was a real grower. I must admit that I’ve seen the band following the Hope Of The States/Cooper Temple Clause road of bands who broke up despite constantly releasing great music. Lucky for us, the Secret Machines are still alive and well, and are currently in the studio working on a new album. That’s about all the news we get; that and a streaming video of a new song called Better Bring Your Friends which you can find on their homepage!

The Boy Least Likely To
Those charming brits invited us to The Best Party Ever back in 2005, and the good news is that we will soon be able to meet up again with them! The follow-up is being recorded as we speak, and according to a blog-entry on MySpace, we probably will get a new song for free somewhen in March. Let’s see if the party will get as good as the last one!
