Well, do I need to say anything about these guys anymore? If you’re not living somewhere down in a deep hole, there’s a big chance that you might have heard about the new rock sensation from Britain. Their demos have been making the rounds on the Net for over a year now, and finally, they have released their debut album which crashed into Britains sales charts like no other. Btw: Here in Switzerland, the album only had a shabby 2000 pre-orders; I’ll check by the end of the week if they made it into the charts at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t!
So is it any good? Yes, I’d say. It’s nothing new, but it’s wild, it’s fun and it has an energetic drive that won’t let you sit still. Only Riot Van, right in the middle of the album, gives you a little breather. My worst fear was that they’d overproduce the raw demos for the album, but fortunately, that hasn’t happened. Most of the songs sound as fresh as they did a year ago, and that’s a good thing. There’s only one question remaining now: how long does it last before it gets boring? Will people still think about that debut album that rocked the music scene by the end of the year? I guess we can only wait and see.
In the meantime, I’m gonna enjoy that cheeky mix, tap along to it and let the hype be hype.
